Great new finds – coconut yogurt edition
I am always on the hunt for more clean vegan yogurts. Unfortunately, many of the ones I find on the shelves at the grocery store are full of sugar, natural flavors, gums, thickeners, oils, and other unwanted ingredients. And almost all of these yogurts have very little protein. Years ago, Kite Hill brand made a very clean unsweetened Greek-style almond milk yogurt that was high in protein. I loved it! Sadly, the company changed the recipe, and it now has added soy, natural flavors, and other thickeners. I was so disappointed. So, nevertheless, I am still looking for a protein-rich, vegan yogurt. In the meantime, I have discovered some unbelievably delicious coconut-based yogurts that have super clean ingredients and feed my body all those gut-friendly probiotics. They’re not high in protein, but they are a great source of fat and make for a yummy after-dinner treat.
Harmless Harvest coconut yogurt
Harmless Harvest originally started off selling just coconut water products, now the company makes all kinds of different coconut waters, coconut yogurts, and even coconut yogurt drinks. Every single one of the products is organic, which I love. This yogurt is thick and creamy with a lovely coconut flavor, and the ingredients are very clean and minimal: just organic coconut milk, organic tapioca starch, and live and active cultures. There are no added sugars or oils or artificial sweeteners or natural flavors. The tapioca starch is used as a natural thickener, which is totally fine. It is not a processed gum that can cause gut inflammation, such as guar gum, xantham gum, gellan gum, carageenan, etc. I love to eat a big bowl of the plain, unsweetened kind with fresh mango or blackberries, and sometimes maybe a little of granola on top. Delicious!
Cocojune coconut yogurt
Cocojune coconut yogurt is the creamiest, richest pure coconut yogurt I’ve ever tasted. It’s made from organic coconut meat and spring water and is chock-full of gut-healthy probiotics. I love the unsweetened vanilla and the unsweetened strawberry. They both have no “natural flavors,” no added sugars, and no artificial sweeteners. They’re naturally flavored with vanilla bean and real strawberry and banana, respectively. Just like I do with the Harmless Harvest yogurt, I love eating Cocojune with fresh mango or blackberries or strawberries, and sometimes a sprinkling of organic cacao nibs for a chocolatey indulgence. What a tasty, belly-happy treat!
Cocoyo living coconut yogurt
Living yogurt? Yes! This coconut yogurt uniquely redefines all yogurts, with a natural effervescence and subtly sweet coconut taste, it is a one-of-a-kind divine treat. It’s made with three wholesome ingredients: raw young coconut, raw young coconut water, and probiotic cultures. All yogurts have live and active cultures, but the makers of GT’s Kombucha have somehow translated the living fermentation process of their popular drinks into this clean, pure coconut yogurt. It is indeed alive, so when you break the seal and open the jar, natural gasses release and you can even see tiny bubbles within the yogurt, giving it a light, airy texture. I love this yogurt and whenever it goes on sale, I stock up. It’s pairs especially well with creamy mango or sweet strawberries, which balance out the tangy zip of the fermented coconut. I only buy the pure flavor, as the other flavors, including the unsweetened vanilla, have stevia and other added sugars.
