My name is Mandy and I may be two months shy of 20 years old, but I know food. I am very fortunate to have been raised by two parents who are self-proclaimed foodies as well. My dad, a former caterer and chef at heart, taught me everything I needed to know in the kitchen. Although my mom isn’t much of a cook herself, she does enjoy the frequent meal out, whether it be at a fine-dining establishment or a hole-in-the-wall joint known for the best of whatever its specialty. I too enjoy eating out and that is why I have created this blog as a way to share my passion with others and let them know about some great (and not so great) places to eat. When traveling, I journal my adventures through photographs, so you will always find me photographing the foods I eat; after all, the richest way to experience and embrace another culture is to eat your way through the different flavors and aromas of the cuisine.
Now, I’m not the kind of young lady who will try absolutely anything. I have my preferences, my likes and dislikes of certain foods, but so does everyone else. You might find this odd or even offensive, so please forgive me if you do, but I do not eat red meat or pork. Yes, I know it is strange for a foodie like myself, but it’s the way I grew up and I simply do not care for the taste of meat. I do however love and very often eat poultry and just about any type of seafood out there. Not being interested in meat has opened my eyes, and of course my mouth, to many other foods that perhaps meat eaters would be disinclined to try. Put some uncommonly eaten animal part on a plate in front of me and I will not be ashamed to push it away. I do have some boundaries when it comes to food; however, I am more than willing to try new things that aren’t repulsive by nature. For instance, I find it rather gross to be served beef tongue stacked high between two slices of Jersey rye and slathered with spicy mustard. What a perfect way to ruin such delicious bread! On the contrary, I would love to try an exotic fruit that has such bold and complex flavors that you could discover the sixth taste.
On that note, I leave you to your own culinary endeavors for now. I have recently traveled down south, so I will post soon about a few note-worthy restaurants from my trip.
